NBA star Ben Simmons opens up on "frustrating" attention to relationship with Kendall Jenner

//

Australian NBA star Ben Simmons has described the recent attention to his personal life, including his relationship with Kendall Jenner as “frustrating”.

Simmons’ world has changed dramatically in a matter of just a few years. The last time he spoke to media in Sydney, he was entering his first year of college basketball with Louisiana State University.

Few knew how quickly he would rise to fame in the NBA and looking back, even the 22-year-old can’t believe quite how far he’s come in such a short space of time.

“The weirdest thing for me is having younger kids reach out to me that are going to college and are going to high school from Australia, and having them ask questions about what I just did only a few years ago. It's funny,” Simmons told Wide World of Sports at the launch of NBA 2K19 in Sydney.

 Simmons' popularity skyrocketed after a successful rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers

“But it's really cool to do that.”

Along with his growing popularity on the court after a standout season as 2018 NBA Rookie of the Year, Simmons has had to adjust to the growing interest in his off-court activities.

That means the paparazzi following him wherever he goes and citizen journalists with iPhones are always at the ready.

“In America, wherever I go I get noticed on the street, no matter where I am,” Simmons said.

 The Aussie star said he now gets noticed no matter where he is in America

“In Australia it's a little more relaxed and chilled.”

However his planned low-key arrival to Sydney airport was also met with a team of photographers.

The recent news of Simmons dating model and reality television star Jenner has intensified tabloid media’s interest in the Aussie, and he admits it’s been difficult to get used to.

“It's just new. It's different and new,” he said.

“But it comes with people you're hanging with and things like that.

“It does get frustrating because you don't get to do certain things that you may have been able to do all the time. But that's a part of it.”

Simmons said he tries not to let it upset him too much though.

“As long as it's all real and authentic, it's fine,” he said.
